Lord Ayyappan or Ayyappa (also known as Manikandan, Sastavu or Sasta) is a Hindu deity who is believed to be the son of Hariharan (union of Lord Shiva and Mohini, who is regarded as an avatar of Lord Vishnu). Therefore, Ayyappa is also known as ‘Hariharan Puthiran’ or ‘Hariharputhra,’
Lord Ayyappan is generally depicted in a yogic posture, wearing a jewel around his neck.
The most prominent and famous shrine of Lord Ayyappan is the one located at Sabarimala, in the hills of Pathanamthitta in Kerala.
